The map is not the territory. The territory
floats.

Four islands adrift above the cloud sea, reachable only by airship. We keep the timetable. The wind keeps the rest.

Lanternholm

3 h from Port Aubade · the lighthouse isle

The only lighthouse in the world that has never seen the sea. Keeper Oona Brisk lights the lamp at dusk anyway — for airships, for swifts, and for anyone who has lost their bearings above the clouds.

  • Climb the 112 steps to the lamp room at dusk
  • Seed cake and strong tea in the keeper’s cottage
  • Lupin meadows in flower from May to August

IIPort Aubade ⟶ AmberleaAD 204

Amberlea

4½ h from Port Aubade · the drifting farm

The breadbasket of the archipelago: wheat that grows in thin air, a mill that has not stopped turning since 1904, and a river that runs off the end of the farm into nothing at all.

  • Bring in the July harvest with the Amberlea families
  • Row the mill-river right to the edge of the world
  • A warm loaf from the mill with every return berth

IIIPort Aubade ⟶ HollowmereAD 316

Hollowmere

6 h from Port Aubade · the endless falls

A forest lake that never empties, pouring over the island’s lip into two thousand metres of air. Nobody has found where the water comes from. Everybody agrees it tastes of rain.

  • Swim the pool a stone’s throw from the edge
  • Cross the moss bridge to the Wayfinder Stones
  • Canopy hammocks, with rainbows at breakfast

IVPort Aubade ⟶ HanakumoAD 409

Hanakumo

9 h from Port Aubade · overnight, by sleeper

A three-tiered temple whose cherry trees bloom every month the island drifts south. The monks ring the wind bells by hand when a ship comes in — you will hear Hanakumo an hour before you see it.

  • The dawn bell ceremony on the upper gallery
  • The lantern stair: through the torii, up 208 steps
  • Petal season — we will wake you when it starts

The fleet

Three ships, each named for a kind of weather.

Every Atlas ship is built in Port Aubade from spruce, copper rivets and eleven thousand square metres of waxed silk. They are not fast. That is rather the point.
